Well this is a month that I definitely copped out on. You’ll notice that most of these photos are of my engagement party. Let me try and explain… Last month I proposed to my girlfriend. Part of my culture’s traditions is to do an engagement ceremony as opposed to popping the question, which really boils down to an exchange of rings in front of family and friends. So, I too have an engagement ring, which I think is a good idea. It shows that we are betrothed to each other and not just her to me. In telling some of my friends over here, I have noticed this concept to be a little progressive for them. Let me rephrase that, the girls love the idea, the guys think it’s a little strange.
Either way, I think it’s a good idea. The engagement ceremony was a blast. My parents hosted the party at their house and we had around 40 people in attendance. My parents also built a mandap or an altar for the ceremony. It’s where the engaged couple sit and perform the ceremony. The ceremony consisted of the reverend saying a blessing, praying, and having each one of the guests come up and put rice in our hair and saying a blessing. To top it off, there was a lot of good food!
The next big thing on my plate this month was shooting Liz’s wedding. I learnt a lot of new things during the whole process. The wedding was beautiful and the reception was a lot of fun although I couldn’t enjoy it as much because my shoulder injury had flared up. The staff at the Iron Goat in Canmore were friendly and great! The food was really good too. Good place to have lunch or dinner when in Canmore. I’ve only included a couple of photos from the wedding as Liz still hasn’t seen them and that’s my fault because I’ve been so busy with work that I’ve had little time to work on them. I’m finally putting the finishing touches on them and I hope to show them to her this weekend!
The last couple of weeks in May were spent down in Columbus, Ohio on a business trip. I couldn’t take too many photos down there as I was working the entire time. It’s an interesting city. Sometimes too humid for me. I’m sure I’ll be back there a few more times! Oh and I got detained by U.S. Department of Homeland Security on the way over there… But that’s a story for another time.
Below are photos from May. You can find the slideshows on my Taking it One Day At A Time page.
